Monique Holiday
Liberal Arts | Graduated August 2022
Transferred to: Institute of American Indian Arts
Major: Studio Arts- Painting
Why did you choose San Juan College?
I chose to go to San Juan College to start on my higher education. San Juan College helped me gain confidence and learning tools to pursue my passion for Art. They helped me transfer to the Institute of American Arts in Santa Fe. I am now graduating with a BFA degree in Painting, as well.
What did you do to prepare for your career?
After graduating from IAIA and SJC, I plan to enroll in IAIA's Graduate program and continue my studies in Studio Arts Painting. In a couple of years, I will be returning to San Juan College as an Art Professor. On the side, I will be continuing my Art business as a Diné painter.
What advice would you give to future graduates?
You can absolutely do anything you set your mind to. It is never too late to start. Follow your dreams and keep going, no matter what happens. Knowledge is power!
What was your fondest memory at San Juan College?
My favorite memory was seeing my Self-portrait painting at SJC's annual Art Exhibition. It gave me hope that one of my paintings will be hung in an Art museum someday, and it did. My recent painting is currently hung at the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts in Santa Fe.
